Toledo Move to Amend and Western Lake Erie Sierra Club Present:

“Going for the Green:
Confronting the Dirty Energy Dilemma

This is a one-day conference and workshop event addressing the many facets of transitioning to a cleaner, more resilient and diversified energy system in the U.S. This grassroots community event is being hosted by Toledo Move to Amend and the Western Lake Erie Group of the Ohio Chapter of Sierra Club.

The morning keynote speaker is Green Party 2012 U.S. Presidential Candidate, Jill Stein. Additional speakers include renewable energy activist and author, Harvey Wasserman; Prof. Charles Simmons, founder of Hush House in Detroit; social justice activist and author, Greg Coleridge; and Tish O'Dell of Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF).

The goals of the conference are two-fold. One is to further educate all segments of the public regarding the role that corporations play in guiding environmental policy. The singular motive of profit-making is often a detriment to the public interest given the immeasurable ecological damage caused by fossil fuel exploration and resulting pollution from burning, as well as significant, long-term risks associated with nuclear energy production. The second goal is to generate and inspire citizen action on grassroots initiatives (small and large) that are focused on more ecologically and economically equitable energy solutions for our communities.

Speakers and panelists will be addressing topics on climate change, fracking, corporate fossil fuel agenda, energy policy, nuclear energy, ethics and justice, renewable energy alternatives, sustainable solutions, local government and community involvement. The afternoon will include break-out discussion groups focused on developing steps toward community-based, sustainable solutions.

The day's events will run from 8:00am – 6:00pm with check-in starting at 8:00am. The registration fee is on a donation basis only. We do not want the cost to deter anyone from attending. We do ask for a minimum donation of $20 to help us defer expenses associated with putting on an event such as this. Lunch will be available for an additional donation (suggested $8.00). You have the option of bringing your own food that day.

Pre-registration is highly recommended as this event may fill to capacity. You can pre-register here   Register
